It’s a brain-melting, drug-fuelled, hyper stylised fun: a synesthesic trip into a delirious dream. It is, one might say, a perfect midnight movie: shockingly violent, beautifully presented, and yet elegantly simple. Of course, it’s not for everybody, but if you’re up for a heady dose of sex and gore, washed over by every in-camera and practical effect under the sun, then it’s one of the most rollicking, crazy rides you’ll have this year.  ...

Sortie en Norvège de LAISSEZ BRONZER LES CADAVRES

« Welcome to sunny southern France. Bruno and his gang have just stolen 250 kilograms of gold, and have to lay low for a while. Moreover, what hideaway is better than an old ruin inhabited by a bunch of artists? The next day will be filled with blood, sweat, meat, squeaky leather and a frenetic cliff rhythm. This is a homage to Italian crime films and the 70’s spaghetti-westerns. Funny, foul and, above all, completely crazy. «   ...

Get ready to be blinded by a ballet of bullets dipped in acid. French experimental filmmaking duo Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani give us a FREE FIRE-esque shootout through a heavily stylized new wave filter that would make Seijun Suzuki dizzy. It may seem like a feature-length action scene with barely a minute or two of breathing room, but it’s definitely a ride worth taking. Following a nonlinear, time stamp-filled narrative about a single day’s deadly quest for a stolen pile of gold, nearly every frame of LET THE CORPSES TAN surprises with visual glee. Playing like a round of TOM CLANCY’S RAINBOW SIX SIEGE on LSD, any angle, corner turn, or even reflection could mean life or death for our eccentric lady Luce (“light”), the estate owner, and the various armed thieves hiding in plain sight. Light itself plays just as big a role as guns and is presented with just as much hairpin precision. It’s guaranteed to cause some audiences to perspire, if not throw in the towel out of exhaustion, but for those who thought Wheatley’s and Tarantino’s kills have been a little bland as of late, this one’s for you. « La Méditerranée, l’été : une mer d’azur, un soleil de plomb… Et 250 kilos d’or volés par Rhino et sa bande. Ils ont trouvé la planque idéale : un village abandonné, coupé de tout, investi par une artiste en manque d’inspiration. Hélas, quelques invités surprises et deux flics vont contrecarrer leur plan : ce lieu paradisiaque, autrefois théâtre d’orgies et happenings sauvages, va se transformer en un véritable champ de bataille impitoyable et hallucinatoire. »   http://www.horreur.com/?q=nid-6384%2Flaissez-bronzer-les-cadavres-laissez-bronzer-les-cadavres-2017-h%C3%A9l%C3%A8ne-cattet-bruno-forzani...

« Hélène Cattet, Bruno Forzani’s Let the Corpses Tan (B+) was the essence of a hallucinogenic midnight movie.  Featuring a cast of silhouettes, this kaleidoscopic tribute to a bygone era perfectly recaptures this aura without becoming a dull reproduction: it’s a better contemporary grindhouse flick than the grindhouse revival; a better contemporary Giallo than most present-day Giallo (including Cattet and Forzani’s own The Strange Colour of Your Body’s Tears), and a better neo-western than most neo-westerns. A Corsican hamlet atop a gorgeous mountain is the stage for an all-night shootout between the artists who reside there, the thieves who hide away there, a mother and her children who run away there, and the police who follow them all. »      ...
